NAWOJ @ 27: Women Journalists Present Score Card
The Rivers State chapter of
the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) yesterday, concluded its 2016 Press Week with a Thanksgiving Service to appreciate God for His faithfulness and abundant mercies upon members as well as for propelling the association to new heights in the past 27 years of its existence.
It also took the opportunity to list a litany of achievements recorded over the years under review, including fighting for women’s rights and mobilising efforts to protect the girl-child, among others.
The event, which took place at the Royal House of Grace International Church, Port Harcourt, also coincided with the celebration of the church’s 24 years of existence.
The President and Founder, Royal House of Grace International Church, Apostle Zilly Aggrey, who presided over the service enjoined believers and worshippers to always be ready to work for God, who alone is the rewarder, of them that diligently seek Him, adding that they should all work for heavenly instead of earthly rewards.
Aggrey emphasized that the increase in his ministry has been God’s doing as many that started their ministries with him are no longer in existence, because there was no biblical watering and increase, noting that the increase of his ministry good beyond Nigeria.
The man of God, called the church’s increase unstoppable by man, adding that earthly protocols, rules and regulations have been suspended as the church continues to break grounds to greater heights.
On her part, the Rivers State chairperson of NAWOJ, Mrs Lilian Okonkwo enumerated the roles women journalists have played to sensitise the society on negative vices unleashed on women and the girl-child and called for support.
She described Rivers NAWOJ as very lucky for being part of the celebration 24 years anniversary of the Royal House of Grace, adding that it was a divine arrangement by God for both NAWOJ and the church to jointly celebrate together.
While handing over a plaque in recognition of Apostle Zilly Aggrey as an outstanding NAWOJ Friend, Okonkwo thanked the Apostle for always being there for journalists in Rivers State, especially Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and NAWOJ.
In his acceptance speech, Aggrey said receiving awards was one of the things he does not like to do, but noted that as a friend of NAWOJ and a women group committed to righting the ills and wrongs metted out on the womenfolk, he would accept the award without hesitation.
