Keke Operators Ready To Encode Tricycles
The Chairman, Rivers
State Tricycle (Keke) Operators, Comrade Benjamin Ibigwe, to execute the numbering and encoding of tricycles in the state as directed by the government.
He gave the indication while addressing his members last week in Port Harcourt during the recent inauguration of the affiliate union.
Ibigwe said the encoding and numbing of tricycle are part of the agreements reached with the government in order to resume keke operation in the state.
He noted that the project would also help to tackle crime rate levied on keke operators.
The keke boss, hinted that the idea was to enable both the union and government to fish out the bad eggs in the system, thereby making it a safe haven for members of the public.
According to him, the encoding/painting would leave each operator with a code that would allow for easy access in case of a reported crime.
He explained that the code would be handled by the government to ensure strict adherence to the system.
He hinted that a grace of six weeks would be given to all members to ensure that their “kekes” are painted in blue and white.
The Rivers State keke leader, revealed that impoundment awaits any operator who fails to paint and obtain the code as directed by the government, saying that keke business has come to stay.
Earlier, he has challenged his members on the need to prove dignity in labour,, adding that all manners of touting/illegality must be discouraged by them.
