Administrator Calls For Bwalya’s Resignation From CAF, FIFA
Following what is
referred to as an ‘involvement in politics’, calls are mounting that Kalusha Bwalya must resign from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and FIFA.
According to a report in Zambia, football administrator Simataa Simataa said that Bwalya has breached FIFA’s code of ethics.
It is reported that the former President of Football Association of Zambia (FAZ), last week joined President Edgar Lungu’s campaign team and spoke on the podium where he urged people to re-elect the Patriotic Front in the coming elections.
Simataa insists that Article 14 is very clear and that Bwalya, who is an executive member of CAF and sitting on FIFA sub committees, was obliged to resign before taking to the political stage.
As stipulated on the website; Article 14, under the headline Duty of Neutrality, reads: ‘In dealings with government institutions, national and international organisations, associations and groupings, persons bound by this Code shall in addition to observing the basic rules of Article 13, remain politically neutral.
‘In accordance with the principles and objectives of FIFA, the confederations, associations, leagues and clubs, generally act in a manner compatible with their function and integrity.’
“He should have just followed the normal procedure by resigning from CAF and FIFA and everywhere else before taking up that stance,” Simataa is quoted as saying by The Post.
“He has his rights as a Zambian citizen to take up his stance, but he is obliged to stick to other obligations under which he was attached.”
