LG Warns Against Extra-Judicial Killings …Condemns Lynching Of Suspected Armed Robbers

Committee of Eleme Local Government, Hon. Johnson Obele Nwogu, has condemned the rising spate of public burning of corpses of people suspected to be armed robbers in the local government area.
In a press release issued by His Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Udeme Obot, the chairman warned against extra-judicial killings in the area.
Hon. Nwogu therefore directed the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Eleme to immediately take measures to check the killings and security of lives and property.
The reaction of the chairman came as two young men suspected to be armed robbers were allegedly killed and their corpses burnt at the Alode section of the East – West expressway recently.
“Deeply concerned about the increasing tendency by some persons to resort to extra-judicial killings (jungle justice) against those suspected to have committed one crime or another in the area, the chairman, CTC Eleme Local Government Area, Hon Johnson Obele Nwogu has warned perpetrators to desist henceforth from such reprehensible acts.
“Hon. Nwogu noted that every citizen is entitled to the fundamental right of fair hearing, the chairman insists that none is guilty except a law court of competent jurisdiction expressly says so.
“He therefore has, directed the DPO Eleme police Division to take adequate measures to ensure that the rights of every Nigerian citizen, including those of suspected criminals, are protected.
