Amputee Federation Laments Poor Sponsorship

Secretary of the Nigeria
Amputee Football Federation (NAFF), Victor Anusa, on Friday in Lagos lamented the fact that the sponsors NAFF looked up to for support were not responding.
Anusa told Tide Sports source the expected sponsors are yet to respond to proposals sent to them.
He said such poor response had compelled the body to postpone its national championships billed for later in May.
“It’s really frustrating, but the fact is that our efforts are not yielding positive results because companies and individuals we approached for sponsorship are complaining about the present state of the economy.
“The subvention which we are supposed to get from the government is not regular, and has not been enough to run the office and prepare towards a national championship proposed to hold this month.
“So, we have decided to postpone the national championship. However, we will remain determined on our objective on the sponsorship and we will spread our drive,” Anusa said.
He, however, expressed sadness over the dearth of activities experienced in NAFF, saying this has posed a major setback to the sport’s development in the country.
The secretary said amputee footballers across the country were also not happy with the stagnant state of activities and some of them had confronted the federation over the issue.
“The situation of lack of activities in the federation is even affecting the state associations. The players here in Lagos are complaining bitterly and I sincerely agree with them.
“No achievement was recorded in the first quarter of this year and there is no way the footballers can improve on their skills with the way things are going,” he added.
Amputee football is a sport practised by persons living with physical disability on the leg or hand using crutches and boots.
NAFF, the body which governs the sport in Nigeria, is affiliated to the Nigeria Paralympic Committee (NPC).
