VC Tasks ICAN Members On Revenue Base

L-R: Dean of Students Affairs, University of Lagos, Prof. Tunde Babawale, Human Rights Lawyer, Mr Femi Falana, Chairman, Office of International Relations, Partnership and Prospects, UNILAG, Prof. Akin Oyebode and Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Muhamed, at the Annual Gani Fawehinmi Students Chamber Symposium in Lagos, on Friday.
Vice Chancellor of
the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Professor Joseph Kinanee, has called on members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) in the university to explore other means of increasing the revenue base of the university.
Professor Kinanee explained that the call was necessitated by the fact that the state government was on the verge of stopping certain allowances enjoyed by staff of the university.
“Any avenue that could be explored to increase the revenue base of the university would come in handy and the initiator compensated for proffering such solutions” he said.
The VC who made the call when members of ICAN in the university paid him a courtesy visit in his office, commended the members for going beyond merely obtaining degrees to become chartered accountants.
He noted that being a registered member of professional association had the advantage of placing them above their peers in terms of job selection, promotion and placement.
“Make your impact felt wherever you find yourself and feel free to come to me anytime with your vision”, he said.
Earlier in his speech, leader of the delegation, Mr John Charly Igwe, had congratulated the Vice Chancellor on the developmental strides the university had recorded since his assumption of office.
He also used the opportunity to urge the VC to give the ICAN necessary recognition in the university in order to put them at par with their peers in other universities.
Mr Igwe also pledged the support of ICAN towards the attainment of the VC’s vision, which he said had been instrumental to the prevailing peace at the university.
“The development, has made staff eager to put in their best as a show of gratitude”, he added.
