Yuletide: Commuters Express Fears Over Lingering Fuel Scarcity
Following the lingering
scarcity of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), otherwise known as fuel in Rivers State, commuters have expressed fear that if the situation is not checked now, it could affect people travelling to the country side.
Some of the commuters who bared their mind in a chat with The Tide correspondent in Port Harcourt said they are expressing some fears that if the epileptic fuel supply continued in the state, they might have a bleak Christmas and New Year celebrations as they would not afford the transportation fare when the drivers increased their fares.
They are of the view that with the current fuel scarcity, they would end up paying through their nose to travel home to celebrate the season with their loved ones, adding that barely few weeks to the Christmas, drivers plying some inter-state routes have increased their fares, with the excuse that there is fuel scarcity in the country.
They are now appealing to the governments and other relevant authorities to ensure availability of the Premium Motor Spirit in all filling stations and monitor their sales in order to alleviate the suffering of the travelling masses this season.
A cross section of commuters which include Madam Gloria Atako-Ndu, Patrick Okon-Bassey, Felicia Nnamta, Solomon Solomon (Jnr), Chibuzor Aaron and Ayo Taiwo in their separate comments further lamented that urgent steps should be taken by the relevant authorities before the Xmas period.
Meanwhile, our correspondent reports that most filling stations in the state are without petroleum products to sell to motorists, with the excuse that they are also facing some challenges where they got the products, alleging high cost at tank farms and poor services at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) depots.
