Speed Limiters: Stakeholders Want FG To Fix Roads First
The Federal
Government has been urged to fix the bad roads in the country before the enforcement of speed limiting device installation by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) next year.
A stakeholder in the road transport sector, Baba Adeoye Matthew who made the call in an interview with The Tide correspondent in Port Harcourt yesterday said the deplorable condition of the federal roads across the country is not ideal to enforce such law, pointing out that the April 2016 deadline given by the FRSC should be reviewed.
Matthew noted that before any enforcement could be carried out, there should be adequate proactive action of ensuring that all deplorable roads were put to order for safe driving.
He said that FRSC should not introduce such device for now, since the condition of Nigerian roads is very bad and drivers could control their speed to avoid road crashes.
The stakeholders advocated for a state of emergency on the rehabilitation of most federal roads in the country, in order to allow free flow of traffic and reduce accident rate in the country.
He, however, advised commercial drivers to imbibe the spirit of safe driving and obey all rules and regulations of safe driving in order to live and drive tomorrow.
