Disrespect: Okowa Sanctions DESOPADEC
The board of Delta
State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESO-PADEC) is in for a rude shock as the state governor, Ifeanyi Okowa has sanctioned it for showing disrespect to the state chief executive.
Governor Okowa who was reportedly unhappy with members of the board also directed the PDP Chairman, Chief Edwin Uzor to institute necessary disciplinary actions against absentees at a stakeholders meeting of the party.
The governor, who addressed party elders, leaders and stakeholders at the meeting at the party secretariat in Asaba, was shocked that in the middle of the parley, even the chairman of the board of the commission boycotted the meeting.
Sources said, they disrespected the governor by being outside the hall and chatting while the governor was delivering his address.
Enraged by their action, the governor stopped his address midway, condemned the attitude of the commission leadership and described it as “a high level of indiscipline.
He regretted the incident, saying that this is a time all hands needs to be on deck, because according to him, “there is a lot of work to do to reorder the party and deliver the dividends of democracy to our people”.
“This is the first meeting of the party. In the last six weeks. I thought every member would accord this meeting utmost seriousness and respect.
There is a need for us to work hard, for all hands to be on deck to deliver on all aspects to our development programmes”, he said.
He appreciated the concern of Delta people in the success story of the state, pointing that “we cannot afford to fail the people who have reposed so much confidence in us”.
