Ahoada Customers Lament Fuel Metre Tampering
Customers in Ahoada in
the Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State have lamented the continued adjustment of meters at most filling stations in the area.
A cross section of the customers who spoke to The Tide at the weekend said the amount of fuel dispensed does not tally with the N87.00 price displayed by most of the fuel marketers.
According to a taxi driver, Mr. Emeka Oha, who plies the Ahoada-Omoku route, the N87,00 per letre price was a gimmick.
He said prior to the fuel scarcity period, if he buys 20 litres of petrol, the quantity remained so at N87.00 per litre.
Apart from that, according to The Tide’s investigations, customers who buy in jerry cans are made to pay a mandatory amount of N100.00 and above before the products are sold to them.
When The Tide visited one of the filling stations along Omoku road, some customers with jerry cans were seen arguing with a female pump attendant.
The attendant, The Tide further gathered, works with the NNPC mega station and was in the habit of charging extra money from customers who come to buy petrol.
According to a source which asked not to be named, such practice has prompted the manager of the filling station to sack a number of his staff caught in such unwholesome act.
However, despite the development, customers with jerry cans were seen patronising the female pump attendant as three other filling stations on the same route had no products.
