Yuletide: Expert Urges Safety At Motor Parks
Law enforcement
agents have been told to beef up security at the various motorparks in Rivers State before, during and after the Christmas and New Year season.
A safety and security expert, Mr Fidelis Okani, who made the call in an interview with newsmen in Port Harcourt recently, said the call became necessary following the activities of insurgents in some parts of the country.
Okani said although no one envisages any act of terrorism in the state, but prevention is better than cure, and condemned the porous security activities at the motor parks.
He said as law enforcement agents, they should do well to protect the lives and properties of passengers and drivers at the various motor parks to prevent any security breach.
The expert hinted that it had been observed that police posts in some motor parks only collect money from the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), that controls the parks on daily basis without adequately carrying out their duties and called for proper security arrangement at motor parks during this yuletide season.
According to him, security and safety of commuters should be given priority, especially at this period of the season, adding that government should also ensure that their citizens at all levels were adequately protected.
He called on the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Mr Musa Kimo, to strategically ensure safety at the various motor parks before, during and after the festive season.
