Girls Guild Wants RSG To Check Child Abuse

Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Dr. Ipalibo Harry Banigo, receiving a gift from Pastor Daniel Nwosu of the Kingsway International Christian Centre, Port Harcourt, during the 2015 International Youth Day celebration organised by the State Government in Port Harcourt, recently.
The Girls’ Guild of the Dio
cese of Nigeria, Delta North, has called on the Rivers State Government to monitor and arrest children whose parents and guardians send out children to hawk during school hours.
Speaking with The Tide in an interview during a retreat of the Guild in Port Harcourt, the Coordinator, Diocesan Girls’ Guild of Anglican Diocese of Niger Delta North, Mrs Furo Nikoro said the call became necessary to check the rising rate of child abuse, particularly the female child by some parents and guardians.
Mrs Nikoro who spoke through the secretary, Mrs Mabel Amadi said the benefit of checking child abuse is tremendous as most parents and guardians were compelled to send their children and wards to school.
Commending RSG on its free education programme at the primary and secondary schools level, the Girls’ Guild Coordinator stressed the need for parents to provide quality education and moral training for their children while inculcating Christian life in them.
She explained that the aims and objectives of the event with the Theme: “the Role of the Girls’ Guild” is to train and teach the girls how to become responsible Christian mothers and children.
Mrs Nikoro also admonished children to embrace Christ and use their youthful age to serve God in truth and spirit.
She charged the parents to monitor the company of their girl child towards ensuring that they don’t fall prey to rapists even as she charged girl children to avoid indecent dressing which she blamed on some parents who encouraged their girl children to wear trousers.
The coordinator used the occasion to thank the wife of the Archbishop of the Diocese of Niger Delta North, Mrs Beatrice Kattey for her support to the Girls’ Guild in the Diocese while tasking parents to live exemplary life to their children.
