Ember Months : FRSC Promises Improved Patrols
Corps Marshal, Federal
Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Boboye Oyeyemi, has assured motorists of improved patrols during the ember months.
He gave the assurance on Wednesday in Abuja while speaking with state House Press Corps after meeting with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
He said the measure was aimed at ensuring hitch-free yuletide.
Oyeyemi said: “I want to assure Nigerians that we are going to witness much improved patrols starting from next month.
“I think we have got much support this year.
“Early this week, we took delivery of the newly supplied ambulances by the World Bank, through the Federal Ministry of Works.
“With the logistics we have now and the personnel, I think we are going to do much better,’’
The FRSC boss said that during the 2014 ember months campaign, the commission reduced crashes by 42 per cent and fatality by 46 per cent compared to same period in 2013.
‘At the trend we are going now, we have been able to stem the tide by 12 per cent.
“I believe we are on course; the personnel have been trained; the training is continuous and the logistics are in place.
He said that the commission had succeeded in sanitising the transport system, adding that training for tankers and trailer drivers were on going in 12 locations across the country.
He said the commission had completed the training in seven locations while the remaining five would be completed in the week.
“By the time we go into the ember months and with the meetings we are having with key stakeholders, I think we are more positioned this year to get better result.
“I want to assure Nigerians that we are ready and with the support of all the key stakeholders, we will be able to get something much better than 2014,’’ he assured.
The Corps Marshal said the commission appreciated the support of President Muhammadu Buhari.
“I think we are getting everything required and we have been assured that we are going to get more than even we are asking for.’’
