Bishop Wants New Priests To Bear Good Fruits
The Catholic Bishop of
Port Harcourt in Rivers State, Most Rev. Camillus Etokudoh, has ordained eight new priests in the diocese with a charge to them to bear good fruits.
In his homily during the ordination mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, Creek Road, Port Harcourt, the Bishop said unless men who are called into the ministry bear good fruits, the call would be a waste in the efforts to evangelize the people for Christ.
The bishop said ministers of God who failed to deliver in their callings should consider themselves not fulfilled in the ministry.
He enjoined the new priests to believe in the holy book, teach what they believe and practise what they teach.
According to him, “believe in the teaching of the church and abide by the words of God for direction in the ministry and “having personal devotions and prayers are basic necessities for priests to succeed in their ministry.”
He recalled that the first priestly ordination in Port Harcourt Diocese took place 52 years ago at the same parish. Incidentally, the two pioneer priests, namely; Rt. Rev. Msgr. Peter Ohalete Ohochukwu and Rt. Rev. Msgr. Festus Chukwudi Okafor were present at the occasion.
The Bishop condemned in strong terms the ruling of the US Supreme Court and Ireland that legalised same sex marriage.
He noted that it was unnatural for a man to marry his fellow man or a woman to marry a fellow woman and called on Christians to adhere strictly to the biblical injunctions of God on marriage and family.
The Bishop also commended the priests and laity for their support towards the building project of the Diocesan Pastoral Centre.
