Bauchi To Boost IGR Via Mineral Resources Harnessing
Bauchi State Govern
ment says it is working towards boosting its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) through the harnessing of the abundant mineral resources in the state.
The State Governor, Mohammed Abubakar, told heads of media establishments in the state, Saturday night, in Bauchi, that it would borrow a leaf from the policy of Lagos State government to achieve the desired goal.
He lamented that individuals and corporate organisations were reaping from the resources of the state, without paying anything into the coffers of government, adding that such a development in this era of dwindling resources, was not healthy.
He cited the case of a foreign mining company that generated N2 billion monthly by operating in the state, with nothing going into the coffers of the state government.
The governor stated that already, someone had been sent to secure input on the mining rule applicable in Lagos state, with a view to domesticating same in Bauchi for enhanced revenue generation.
Meanwhile, governor has pledged to maintain an open-door policy in dealing with journalists in the state.
He commended media establishment for their role in entrenching a virile democratic culture in the country, especially during the 2005 general elections.
He also promised to give the state government-owned media organisations, the attention they needed to function effectively.
In his remarks, Bauchi State chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Alhaji Dahiru Mohammed, commended the governor for creating a forum to interact with heads of media establishments in the state.
Mohammed urged the governor to meet frequently with journalists, with a view to sharing ideas and receiving genuine feed-backs on affairs in the state.
