VC Calls For Sustenance Of New Office Complex In ISS
Vice Chancellor of the
Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST), Professor Barineme B. Fakae, has called for the sustenance of the new 1000 sitting capacity assembly/administrative complex in the International Secondary School (ISS).
Making the call in his speech at the commissioning of the building last Thursday, the Vice Chancellor noted that the event marked the end to students of the school having their Assembly, “under rain or sun.”
He recalled instances in which parents/guardians withdrew their children/wards from the school on realising that they had their Assembly in the opening saying that, “this place is not of international standard.”
Professor Fakae, who represented the Rivers State Commissioner for Education, Dame Alice Lawrence –Nemi, noted that the commissioning of the building was the result of the commitment of the management of the university in ensuring continued development in all spheres of its endeavour.
He urged successive administration to maintain and sustain the building in line with the spirit of the university.
Also speaking, Elder Amos Kalada Bara-Hart, who expressed appreciation over the administrative/assembly complex said , Professor Fakae developed the school to match the looming status it has attained as a result of her consistent excellent performances globally.
According to him, “there is a magnificent two storey classroom block, five star ultra modern laboratory with state –of-the art equipment, a fully equipped ICT centre Highlight of the occassion was the presentation of Award of Excellence by he Chairman, Parents Teachers Association (PTA), ISS, Mr Akeem Bello-Osagie.

The River State Commissioner for Education, Dr Peters Nwagor has called on media practitioners in Rivers State to deploy their various communication platforms toward promoting government programmes and policies aimed at achieving sustainable development in the education sector. Dr. Nwagor made the appeal when members of the Etche Ethnic Practicing Journalists (EEPJ) paid him a courtesy visit in Office in Port Harcourt. The Commissioner emphasized the strategic role of the media in shaping public perception, promoting government initiatives, and supporting policies capable of improving the quality of education and human capital development in the state. According to him, constructive media engagement remains essential in creating public awareness on educational reforms, students’ welfare, infrastructural improvements, and other interventions being implemented by the state government.
