Group Urges Buhari To Reintroduce ‘WAI’
A socio-political group,
under the aegis of Buhari Friends Organisation Network, has urged President Mohammadu Buhari to reintroduce the War Against Indiscipline and Corruption to enhance good governance in the country.
The National Coordinator of the group, Mr Athanasius Okon, gave the advice in Uyo recently at a news conference.
Okon said that the group would soon inaugurate the campaign against corruption and indiscipline as part of their contributions to reawaken the consciousness in Nigerians.
The group urged the president to make good his promise of positive change to Nigerians.
“We have been supporters of Buhari since 1999 and have consistently joined the struggle for his success; as Buhari supporters, we will not want his government to fail.
“Therefore, we are embarking on this War Against Indiscipline and Corruption to remind and encourage him about his promises to the people of Nigeria.
“We need him to stop corruption in all ramifications and above all to checkmate all social vices in the country,’’ Okon said.
The group coordinator noted that corruption had caused the country huge damage and must be handled with all the seriousness it deserves for the country to achieve any progress.
He emphasised the need for the president to strengthen anti-corruption agencies in the country to tackle official corruption which had eaten deep into the fabric of Nigerian leaders.
“Politicians holding public office must be accountable to the people; the people will no longer allow politicians to take public money as their property.
“The people will no longer stand back and watch the wealth of Nigeria become the personal property of a few political or public office holders.
“The era of business as usual when corruption thrived must be stamped out; it must be over and gone forever; corruption must be tackled decisively.
“We urge President Buhari to strengthen the anti corruption agencies of government to enable them function effectively,’’ Okon said.
