Don’t Let Model Secondary School Vision Die – Ex-Perm Sec
The former Permanent Secretary of the Rivers State Ministry of Education, Dr Richard Ofuru has pleaded with the administration of Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike not to allow the vision behind the establishment of model secondary schools to die.
Ofuru who made the plea in an interview with newsmen in Port Harcourt, said that the concept behind the model secondary school was one of the best, adding that, killing the vision will amount to a disservice to the state.
He particularly said that the model secondary school was conceived to provide a unique educational opportunities to the brightest and most intelligent Rivers children.
Ofuru said that the managers of the school Edu Comp Solution Limited has kept to the vision of the model secondary schools by ensuring that the most brightest and intelligent Rivers children are given admission in the school.
He said that the situation has reflected on the results of all external examination involved by the school.
The former permanent secretary therefore urged the new administration to meet with the managers of the school and look at the proposals on whether fees would be introduced or free as it is at the moment.
Ofuru who also warned against allowing the Ministry of Education to take full control of the school, said if this is allowed, the poor quality of education being experienced in Community Secondary Schools across the state would be replicated in the Model Secondary Schools.
According to him, the present partnership between the state government and the private sector in the running of the schools should be allowed to continue towards guaranteeing the best quality and sustainable education to the people of Rivers State.
