Customs Impounds Contraband Rice, Poultry Products
The Nigeria Customs
Service said it had impounded a wooden boat laden with smuggled rice and poultry products worth N44.6 million.
The Public Relations Officer, Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone ‘A’, Ikeja, Lagos, Mr Uche Ejesieme, made the disclosure in a statement issued to newsmen in Lagos on Monday.
Ejesieme said the seizures were made by operatives from FOU at Gbaji-Yeke-Badagry Waterways and on the Lagos-Sagamu Expressway on June 11 and June 12, respectively.
He said the items seized include 4,404 bags of rice and 3,000 cartons of smuggled poultry products.
The Unit Controller, Alhaji Adamu Turaki, according to the statement, attributes the success recorded to strategic planning, monitoring and operational expertise displayed by the teams.
Turaki also said that the collaboration and synergy with the communities and other security agencies had been overwhelming.
He commended Chief Emmanuel Kwuakanm, the traditional ruler of Gbaji-Yeke Kingdom, where the seizures were made, for cooperating with the customs operatives.
