Imo Puts Measures To Check Revenue Leakage
The Imo State Govern
ment has directed its board of internal revenue to handle documents relating to land transactions and other matters requiring stamp duties and payment of capital gains tax.
The directive is contained in a release by the Commissioner of Internal Resources and Pension Matters, Mr Obinna Mbata, in Owerri on Friday.
He said that any of such documents that did not pass through the board remained illegal and fraudulent.
Mbata advised members of the public to refer all matters relating to the payment of stamp duties and capital gains tax to the board.
He insisted on collection of tamper-proof receipts as evidence of payment of such fees.
The commissioner said that the measures were being put in place to block revenue leakage through fraudulent conversion of fees paid as stamp duties and capital gains tax.
He said that the state government was determined to encourage fiscal discipline and macroeconomic structure to engender prudent financial management for development.
