Assembly Candidate Lauds Security Agencies On Peaceful Poll
The candidate for
Bayelsa House of Assembly, Mr Tonye Okio, has commended security agencies in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa for their conduct during Saturday’s election.
Our correspondent reports that the electorate in Bayelsa only participated in state assembly poll on April 11, as there was no governorship election in the state.
Okio, who contested on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), told newsmen in Yenagoa yesterday that the behaviour of security agents indicated that they were ready to support the advancement of democracy.
He said “I am satisfied with the job of security agencies during April 11 election; Nigeria is on the move for a standard electoral system.
“The election was peaceful, the youth conducted themselves in a good manner; I am happy that we had a violence-free election in my area.
“I voted in Ward 2, Unit 7; the conduct was smooth, though some aggrieved individuals wanted to cause confusion but the police controlled the situation.’’
The APC candidate also praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for introducing the card reader.
He added that “building democracy will not only strengthen the electoral system but also promote Nigeria internationally in terms of politics.
“Politics in Nigeria is changing; at least, we have grown into the electoral system of voting, where you must cast your vote by yourself.
“I believe the election result will be announced any moment and whoever the cap fits must wear it; I thank God for that.’’
Meanwhile, INEC had shifted election in eight of the 24 constituencies in Bayelsa because of inadequate ballot papers.
The election would be held on April 18 in the affected areas.
