A clergyman in Rivers
State, Rev Osikiesiyu-Y Amakiri, has linked the absence of God-fearing leaders as the bane of society.
Rev. Amakiri said this in his funeral oration at the burial ceremony of late Madam Felicia Ebelo, the mother of the chairman of Andoni Local Government chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Hon Jeremiah Ebelo.
Mrs Felicia Ebelo, aged 65, died on March 25, 2015.
Speaking at the Our Saviour Anglican Church, Ajakaja, Rev Amakiri said “death is inevitable for all mankind”, adding that the only way out is reconciliation with God through Christ.”
According to him, a nation whose leaders do not know Christ will be full of crises, a situation that is being experienced today in Nigeria.
“Show me a man whose life is full of crises and I will show you a man without Christ.
“Show me a nation full of crises and I will show you a nation without Christ,” he said.
He predicted doom for those whose activities had continued to impact negatively on the weak and the poor, stressing that such people would be made to stand some day before the judgment seat of Christ to give account of their lives.
Rev Amakiri stressed the need for policies that would improve the conditions of the people, while urging the people to emulate the deceased who was kind and honest during her lifetime.
Also speaking the husband of the deceased, Catechist Christian Ebelo (rtd) described the death of his wife as a big loss to the family.
He said that the vacuum created as a result of her demise would be difficult to fill.
In his speech, the chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Andoni Local Government Area, Hon Jeremiah Ebelo also lamented the death of his mother, describing her as an epitome of love and kindness.
He assured that the family would sustain her legacies.
