TUC Calls For Peaceful Elections In Rivers
The Trade Union
Congress of Nigeria (TUC), Rivers State chapter, has called for the peaceful conduct of forthcoming presidential and National Assembly elections tomorrow in the state.
Speaking to The Tide recently, state chairman of TUC, Comrade Chika Onuegbu, said the people of the state are free to exercise their franchise by voting for any candidate of their choice during the elections.
Onuegbu urged political parties members in the state to avoid all forms of violent conducts during and after the elections.
He said the electorates are matured enough to vote for a candidate that can deliver the dividends of democracy to them without compromising their conscience.
The TUC boss said the myriads of problems being faced by the nation should challenge elected representatives to proffer solution on how to tackle such problems and provide good governance for the people.
He enjoined the elected representatives to always live up to their responsibilities on electioneering promises to the electorates after elections, rather than abandoning the electorates.
Onuegbu called upon the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure that the forthcoming elections are conducted within the precincts of fairness, freedom and credibility.
He said INEC should ensure that all necessary challenges and logistic problems are adequately addressed to avoid any accusation of taking side with any of the political parties.
