Economic Growth: Britain Urges Women Empowerment
The Federal and State
government have been urged to empower women to promote the nation’s economic growth, job creation and poverty alleviation.
This was stated in Lagos recently by the newly appointed British Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr Martin Udeh, at the event to mark 105th International Women Day by the British High Commission.
Udeh said the United Kingdom would work with Nigeria to promote and protect women’s rights.
The envoy emphasised the importance of women empowerment in the growth of nations’ economy stressing that their contributions facilitate rapid economic growth and stability.
This year’s theme for International Women Day was “Women’s Economic Empowerment and Supporting Women to Achieve Their Potential.”
Also speaking at the event, the Chief Executive officer, Brian and Brandson Consulting, Mrs Diwura Fagunwa said women could access credit provided they met necessary requirements.
According to her, for prepective borrowers to gain access to bank loans they must have the character and capacity to pay back as well as the collateral and financial commitment to their business She said the 5Cs of credit of women economic empowerment are character, capacity, capital, conditions and collateral.
She supported the need to promote women economic empowerment to enhance a better living conditions for them in the society.
