Blue House Wins Christy Toby Centre’s Sports Competition

The Blue House of Christy Toby Inclusive Education Centre, Iriebe, Rivers State celebrate their top spot and trophy in the 2015 Annual Inter-House competition of the centre, yesterday.
Blue House has emerged
winners of the fourth edition of the annual Christy Toby Inclusive Education Centre Inter-House Sports with 147 points, while Red House clinched second position with a total of 115 points.
The inter-house sports which took place at the school premises situated at the Christy Toby Road Iriebe, Saw Blue House take first position in the march past and Red House took second, respectively.
The inter-house witnessed various events such as the 50 metres (boys and girls), catching the school bus (boys), Egg race for (boys and girls), filling the basket with ball (boys and girls) and filling the battle with water (boys and girls) at the nursery school level.
Also, at the primary/secondary levels, activities like sack race (boys and girls), 100 metres (boys and girls) 200 metres (boys and girls), Tug of War and the Christy Toby Game (boys and girls), were competed for.
Earlier, the principal of the school, Dr Oladayo Thomson, in his opening speech described the school as a place for both regular and special children, where equality and togetherness is inculcated in the students irrespective of their challenges.
Dr Oladayo, stated that the school accommodates both regular students and those children with special needs (special children) such as those that are learning impaired, visual impaired and the slow learners.
According to him, all students are being taught the manual communication and sign language, including the brail to ease communication for both the regular and special children.
“The students also learn in the same class, but have different boarding facilities. During inter-house sports activities, they participate together at all levels of the school and you cannot see any difference in terms of understanding,” he said.
He noted that the best male athlete is hearing impaired, while the best female academic student is a regular student, saying that the school was sure to produce future sports men and women for the state.
High point of the event was the presentation of medals, and trophies to eventual winners.
