We Have Always Paid Sign-On Fees – Sports Commissioner
The Rivers State
Commissioner for Sports, Hon. Fred Igwe has urged players of Sharks and Dolphins Football Clubs not to allow the current down turn in funding affect their commitment to their career and motivation for hardwork because the state always pay players their entitlements.
Speaking to newsmen at the Liberation Stadium Port Harcourt on Tuesday during the opening ceremony of the 1st Orlean Invest Host Communities Football tournament, the Commissioner called on the players to have faith in the government because their entitlements would be settled as soon as funds are available.
“Let them keep their Career going, it is no secret that we are going through a low moment by way of finance and funding, that shouldn’t make them lose hope.
‘It is a phase and it will certainly pass, definitely, good times will come back. We have always paid sign – on fees in arrears and we pay 100 percent, the players known it, so they shouldn’t take to going to lie down at the Government House gate or complain ceaselessly. If we get the money, we pay them”, said the Commissioner.
On Dolphins’ Continental match tomorrow, he urged the players to remain focused and go for victory that will see them progress in the competition.
He also used the opportunity to call on the people of the state, especially, football lovers to through the Liberation Stadium in their numbers to cheer Dolphins to victory.
“Everybody should come and support Dolphins, especially, those who are already angling to join the team for away matches. Those who like to go outside to watch the team should come and support them tomorrow, Dolphins have to win here first before anybody can have the opportunity to travel with them on away games”.
