Customs Western Command Gets Two Gun Boats, Soon
The Nigeria Customs Ser
vice (NCS), Western Marine Command will soon take delivery of two gun boats to patrol the Nigerian waterways against smugglers.
The boats when delivered will help secure the western and Eastern waterways.
The controller of the command Comptroller Umar Yusuf who disclosed this to newsmen in Lagos recently expressed delight that the Controller General of Customs, Mohammed Inde Dikko, had approved the purchase of two ballet proof sea going vessels and that they would be delivered any moment from now.
Yusuf said a communication base equipped with sophisticated gadgets that would be located at the command to effectively monitor the movement of vessels and other maritime activities at sea, were also available in the boats.
He reiterated that with the arrival of the boats, smugglers would find it extremely difficult to carry out their nefarious activities within the areas adding that they would collaborate with the Nigerian Navy to ensure perfect operation.
The Comptroller of the Customs Western Command further hinted that the new gun boats could accommodate about 30 personnel and would compliment the existing ones and those undergoing some repairs, assuring that when delivered the Nigerian waters would be monitored effectively and those smugglers would not have a place to operate.
He noted that the command would do everything possible to stop smuggling in the area with the able men and officers of the command.
