2015: A’Ibom Internal Revenue Service To Generate N24bn
The acting Chairman,
Akwa Ibom Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Mr Anietie Edem, said that the Service would generate about N24 billion in 2015.
Edem said this while addressing newsmen on the activities of the Service in Uyo.
He disclosed that the agency generated about N15.7 billion in 2014 fiscal year and promised an improvement this year.
The acting chairman, however, urged the state government to properly fund the organisation to enable it to achieve its revenue target.
He added that “we generated about N15.7 billion in 2014, but with proper funding, we hope to generate about N24 billion this year.’’
The acting chairman said plans were underway to introduce the sale of scratch cards for annual registration of tricycles and vehicles in the state to guard against touting.
Edem added that the introduction of scratch cards would check fraudulent activities and boost the revenue profile of the state government.
The IRS boss said the organisation planned to introduce maritime service for people within the coastal areas to volunteer useful information about people and corporate oil service companies operating in the state.
He called on the state government to make the training and retraining of staff in tax assessment and revenue generation as top priority in line with international best practice.
He promised to computerise the agency’s operations to guard against possible revenue leakages.
