Polls:RSG, Navy Partner On Security
Rivers State Government has restated its resolve to give the Nigerian Navy, the Joint Military Task Force (JTF) codenamed Operation Pulo Shield, the Marine Police, and other security agencies the needed support to ensure the safety of sea travellers especially during the forthcoming elections.
Rivers State Governor and Chairman, Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF), Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, reiterated his government’s determination in ensuring the security of lives and properties across the state, especially along the waterways yesterday when the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral Henry Babalola paid him a courtesy visit in in Government House, Port Harcourt.
He stated that the state government would give the Nigerian Navy, the Joint Military Task Force (JTF) codenamed Operation Pulo Shield, the Marine Police, and other security agencies the needed support to ensure the safety of sea travellers, especially during the forthcoming elections.
Represented by his Deputy, Engr. Tele Ikuru, the governor noted that “years ago, security on our waterways was a difficult task, but with the help of the Navy, the situation was tamed,” adding that his administration will continue to work hand in hand with them in ensuring that the waterways remain safe across the state.
Speaking earlier, the FOC, Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral Henry Babalola, said that he was in the state as part of his familiarisation tour of all units under his command, explaining that it is with a view to assess their combat readiness and operational efficiency in tackling security challenges, especially in the Gulf of Guinea.
He stated that the command under his leadership will collaborate with other security agencies in working out modalities to ensure that the forthcoming general election would be done in a proper and conducive atmosphere, adding that “we promise that movement on the waterways during the election and after would not be a threat to the people of Rivers State”.
