Distribution Of PVCs Continues In Rivers, INEC Assures
Contrary to speculations that the distribution of Permanent Voters Cards (PVC) has ended in RiversState the Resident Electoral Commissioner Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state, Dame Gesila Khan has stated that the distribution exercise will continue.
She has therefore challenged eligible voters who registered to collect their PVCs to enable them vote elections next month.
The Resident Electoral Officer (REC) gave the hint while speaking with newsmen shortly after a pledge signed by the major Governorship candidates in Rivers State, in Port Harcourt, yesterday.
She said Rivers State has continued to issue PVCs ahead of the presidential election, noting that INEC was poised to ensure active participation of every eligible Nigerian in the electoral process.
The commissioner also ruled out the possibility of voting with temporary voters cards, (TVCs) noting that only eligible voters who have obtained their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) would be able to vote in the 2015 elections.
Dame Khan also disclosed that the continuous voters’ registration exercise for the 2015 general elections was over, pointing out that speculations that voting and collation of results would take place at police stations were incorrect.
According INEC has upgraded its standards of operation ahead of the general elections to avert rigging, and disclosed that result sheets would be polling-unit specific.
According to the commissioner, “Efforts are being made by INEC to extend anti-violence campaign to the grassroots, to ensure a hitch-free polls”.
She also commended the media for the effort in sensitizating the Nigeria citizenry through civic education and awareness on the electoral process.
