Customs Boss Harps On Training
The Controller, Nigeria
Customs Service (NCS), Area 11 Command, Onne in Rivers State, Hamzat Gummi has reiterated the importance of training and re-training of officers and men of the service to meet up the present day challenges of world best practice.
Gummi, in a lecture organised by the Command recently said, on-the-job training for officers and men of the service would further help boost the revenue generation for the command as they would be acquainted with the aspects of classifications and other technical areas of cargo documentation, handling and clearance.
According to him, the training was also geared towards enhancing productivity and efficient service delivery on cargo clearance at the Port, adding that it is in view with the global reforms and challenges in NCS operations and administration to be in line with international best practices.
He further noted that it is in line with the human capacity development of the Comptroller General of Customs, Alhaji Abdullahi Dikko Inde, aimed at strengthening and upgrading the know-how and technical skills of the officers and men, especially on the prompt delivery of cargo.
The customs boss however enjoined the trainees to ensure they be above board and imbibe the values of discipline and transparency in the discharge of their duties and charged them to take the training serious in order to enhance their knowledge on the job.
In his own paper on imports and exports, the Area 11 Project manager of the Command, Mohammed Gaya also stressed that imports and exports procedures must be genuine in cargo clearance, which was aimed at facilitating trade and clearance of cargo at the Port.
Gaya noted that with the training, officers and men of the Command would be more abreast with the workings of the Customs in line with best global practice.
