Electricity: NERC To Investigate DISCOs Over Load Rejection
The Nigerian Electricity
Regulatory Commission (NERC) is set to investigate some Electricity Distribution Companies (DSCOs) over their alleged rejection of an additional allocation of Electricity load.
Speaking to newsmen in Abuja on Monday, its chairman Dr. Sam Amadi, said the commission was directed by the Minister of Power, Professor Chinedu Nebo, to investigate and find a way of dealing with such firms.
Amadi said any DISCO that continues to reject electricity load allocation would have its operational Licence revoked.
He said the investigation is to find out whether the DISCOs have genuine reasons for not taking the additional load allocation to them from the national grid.
He explained that the DISCO’s reason may be that they are afraid of taking more than what they can sell, stressing that some DISCOs must also have rejected their allocations due to network and capacity constraints.
But The Tide learnt that the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) said the penalties charged by the market operator for energy taken were above the ceiling capacity of the company, thus putting constraint on the company for acceptance of additional electricity allocation load.
The spokesperson of AEDC Mallam Ahmed Skekarau, told newsmen that the form does not reject load allocated to it for its customers, rather the company is seeking increased supply of electricity to meet its customers demand and needs, especially in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
