NAOC Constructs Youth Centre In Obrikom
In a bid to foster social
integration among youths in the host community, the Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC) and its joint venture partners, have commissioned a youth centre in Obrikom community in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The NAOC General Manager, District, Paolo Carnevale who was represented by the Assistant Manager, Community and Government Liaison, Mrs Grace Okpoyo, said the project was a fulfillment of the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Community and NAOC.
According to him, the youth Centre would boost the recreational activities, and facilitate not just the well-being of the people but also strengthen and sustain the existing cordial relationship between the Obrikom community and NAOC.
He enjoined the community to provide a peaceful conducive business environment for oil operation to thrive and guide against any form of vandalism, so as to attract more project in the area.
While cutting the tape during the commissioning ceremony recently at Obrikom, the Rivers State Commissioner for Works, represented by Deputy Director Civil Engineering Works, Engr. Mrs Juliana Okeyea, commended NAOC for fulfilling the needs of the host communities, as well complementing the efforts of the state government towards the provision of rural infrastructure in the communities.
The Commissioner charged the community to make good use of the centre to develop their talents in sports and other recreational activities.
The Rivers State Ministry of Environment represented by Director Nduka Joseph lauded the magnanimity of NAOC for providing the social infrastructure that would engage the youths in sporting activities, as well reduce youth restiveness and other social vices.
He urged them to guide the project and shun and act of vandalism in the area.
In his address, the Chairman, Community Development Committee, Paul Isiodu, expressed his gratitude over the completion and commissioning of the project.
He appealed for the negotiation of a new MoU as the previous one had expired since 2003, also for the employment of the indigenes of Obrikom in the company’s staff strength.
