CDC Chairman Wants Dickson To Renovate Health Centre
The Chairman, Commu
nity Development Committee (CDC) of Opokuma Community in Bayelsa State, Mr Samuel Boleigha, has urged the state government to rehabilitate the community’s health centre.
Boleigha, who made the call in an interview with newsmen in Yenagoa, said that seven communities relied on the facility for their healthcare.
The chairman listed the seven communities as Orubiri, Gbaranwa, Ayakoroama, Ofonibiri, Abuwari, Igbainwari and Ekpuwari.
He said the dilapidated state of the health centre and its poor and inadequate facilities were compelling the inhabitants of the communities to go to other distant places to seek for medical attention.
“Our people have been travelling to cities like Yenagoa and other neighbouring cities for health services; the reason is that the health centre in Opokuma is not serving us,” he said.
Our correspondent reports that the Bayelsa Government had recently embarked on an assessment and audit of health facilities in the eight local government areas of the state.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Ayibatonye Owei, explained that the audit of the facilities was aimed at improving the healthcare delivery system in the communities.
Owei said the plan was also aimed at achieving global standards in healthcare delivery.
He said: “We have started audit of the health facilities and that is the first step in the campaign against poor health facilities in the state.
