Agency Frowns At Trading During Sanitation Hours

Waste management Agency (RIWAMA) says it is unlawful to engage in trading activities during sanitation hours.
The Head of operations of the agency. Mr Job .E. Emmanuel, who said this during this month’s environmental sanitation exercise at Rumuokoro Market in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area said that the agency would soon commence the arrest and prosecution of those who do businesses during sanitation hours.
Mr. Emmanuel said that the agency would no longer condone a situation where people disregard government policy on an issue, stressing that it is no longer secret that last Saturday of every month is sanitation. While attributing the poor level of compliance to lack of enforcement owing to the closure of the state Judiciary, he however, warned that the situation would no loger be tolerated.
The Ageny’s operation manager also frowned at the low level of turned out for the exercise and stressed the need for people to ensure that their surroundings are kept clean to avoid the outbreak of diseases.
He also decried the indiscriminate pasting of posters on the streets of Port Harcourt city and environs and appealed to politicians and religious leaders to caution their subjects against the act as the situation is defacing the city.
Mr. Emmanuel also said that the Agency would not relent in ensuring that Port Harcourt maintains its status as the garden city of Nigeria.
