ICAO Trains NCAA Aeromet Inspectors
As part of moves to im
prove technical competence, three officers of the Aeromet Department of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) joined their counterparts from other countries for a one week international civil aviation orgainsation’s (ICAO) training on advance Aeronautical meteorology inspectors course in Dakar, Senegal.
The authority said the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has an obligation to ensure that meteorology information is provided and meet internationally agreed requirement, noting that the target is to provide quality training for staff who perform such activities.
The provision of meteorological services to civil aviation promote the safety, efficiency and regularity of air navigation. In addition, the meteorological authority conduct over sight an audit of providers of met information.
Similarly, as part of the wider CAA activities as a national supervisory authority under the single European Sky and European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) regulations.
From NCAA, Aeromet Department, the Deputy General Manager (DGM), Mr Duoglas Egere along with two Assistant General Manager, Mr Raimi Adewara and Mr Paul Ajakaye attended the training.
Official sources said the purpose of the training is to ensure that the Civil Aviation Authority has the capacity to regulate Aeronautical Meteorological Service providers in its state in accordance with the framework of the ICAO Universal oversight Audit Programme.
The Meteorological Authority is also heavily involved in shaping the international development of met policy and future requirements, working with the International Civil Aviation Organisation.
The World Meteorological Organisation, European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and Eurocontrol to provide expert advice on a wide range of meteorological matters, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) work hand in hand to achieve safety.
