Delta Senator Alleges Threat To Life
Senator Ifeanyi Okowa
has raised alarm about “an orchestrated plot” to kill him and destroy his political career. Okowa, a former Secretary to Delta State Government is currently representing Delta North in the Senate.
The senator’s lawyer, Mr. Peter Mrakpor, who addressed a press conference in Asaba on Thursday, said since the race for the governorship of Delta State became rife, certain persons from the political zone of the senator have been raising spurious allegations aimed at nailing him and his career.
“The attacks and malicious allegations against our client’s reputation stem from the fact that there is a governorship election in a few months’ time and all must be done to stop him,” Mrakpor said.
He said the senator was calling on the police to step in and investigate the series of activities that have been orchestrated to implicate him in a number of violent actions, including a murder dating back to 2003.
“Senator Okowa’s life is in danger. There is a conspiracy to frame him up. Let the police take immediate action. The allegations are demonic. They are politically motivated. The series of events in the past few weeks show that somebody is acting out a script. And before the third one comes out, let the police step in,” Mrakpor said.
The lawyer denied media reports that linked last week’s shooting in Agbor, Okowa’s political base to the senator’s supporters. He also questioned the reason behind the digging up of the murder of one Arthur Agbea, whose investigation had been concluded by the police in 2004 and connecting it to the senator.
