Civil Service Week Begins In PH, Sunday
All is now set for the
celebration of the 2014 Civil Service Week in Rivers State slated for July 13-14 2014.
A statement signed by Chairman of the Central Planning Committee of the 2014 Civil Service Week, Rufus N. Godwins, Esq indicated that for the first time, the celebration would be low-keyed to reflect the mood of the nation.
According to the statement, the 2014 Civil Service Week would hold on Monday, July 14, 2014 after a Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, July 13, 2014 at the Christ Church Interdenominational, Port Harcourt.
The statement noted that although the celebration of the Civil Service annual celebration would be low-keyed, activities have been lined up to truly appreciate the hard working civil servants of Rivers State.
Part of activities for the celebration that has the Governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, as Special Guest of Honour, include lectures, presentation of merit awards, entertainment, charity visits and novelty football match between permanent secretaries and directors.
According to the statement, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, Prof. Joseph Ajienka, will present the keynote lecture titled, “Proud to Serve in the Public Service”, while a retired Permanent Secretary, Apostle Siadapiri Jaja will speak on the topic “Job Security, Life Pension and the Public Service: Coping with the Change”.
The celebration will also afford corporate partners of the civil service in Rivers State to make presentations, especially on the new pension regime in Rivers State.
The event, which is slated for the main bowl of the Alfred Diete-Spiff Civic Centre in Port Harcourt, will feature a variety of entertainment and an interactive session with the Head of Civil Service of Rivers State, Barr. S. T. LongJohn for the first time.
The statement further directed all staff of Rivers State Government to make themselves available for the celebration as early as possible with their identification cards and take away the understanding that their sacrifices, service and discipline are not in vain.
