Senate President Inaugurates NDDC Projects in C’River
The President of the
Senate, Chief David Mark, has commended the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, for delivering projects that have direct impact on communities in the Niger Delta region.
Senator Mark made the commendation at the commissioning of the 1.5-kilometre Ndoma Egba Road and Erosion Control Works executed by the NDDC in Ikom, Cross River State.
The Senator President, who was speaking at the ceremony to officially handover projects to the benefitting communities in Ikom, praised the Senate Leader, Senator Victor Ndoma Egba for collaborating with the NDDC in bringing development to his people.
The Senate President noted that development projects were sometimes hampered when communities come up with all kinds of unnecessary demands on government agencies or contractors and urged all communities to imbibe the spirit of cooperation as exhibited by the people of Ikom.
In his remark, the Managing Director of NDDC, Barr. Bassey Dan-Abia, said that the provision of key infrastructure was part of the mandate of the commission to fast-track development of Nigeria’s oil-rich region, adding that it was in consonance with the transformation agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan.
According to the Managing Director “the hospital consists of 200 general ward bed space and 20 VIP private rooms, and promised that the NDDC would go beyond just erecting the hospital building.
In a related development, the Governor of Cross River State, Senator Liyel Imoke has commended the NDDC for completing the Akparabong Surface Water scheme in Ikom Local Government Area of the state.
He said that the massive water scheme, with a reticulation of 4.2-kilometre, would save the benefitting communities from the dangers of using contaminated water.
Governor Imoke, made the remarks while commissioning the water project and acknowledged the contributions of the NDDC to communities in his state.
Senator Ndoma Egba thanked the NDDC for giving the 3 communities in his locality clean and treated water.
He observed that that the impressive project had brought life to his people, adding that he was honoured to be part of the project.
