RSG To Demolish Ramps On Ada-George Road
The Rivers State Gov
ernment has warned property owners who built concrete ramps along the dualised Ada-George Road to remove them with immediate effect or face the wrath of the law.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works, Dr Paulinus Nwankwoala, handed down the warning in a statement made available to The Tide in Port Harcourt, on Friday.
Nwankwoala said the notice was necessary in order to enable the contractors handling the project, Gitto Construction Company, to lay the final ashphelt on the road, pointing out that the concrete ramps are posing impediment to the smooth execution of the work.
He reminded property owners that the state government acquired the entire length of the pedestrian walkway of the road and compensated the owners, stressing that the property owners have no right to encroach on the road.
According to him, the ministry would therefore, demolish all ramps on the road within the week and charge the owners of the property to pay the cost of the demolition of the ramps.
The Permanent Secretary threatened that severe sanctions would be meted on those who failed to adhere to this order or prevent the contractors from doing the job.
The statement however, advised motorists and commuters to obey traffic signs placed by the contractors to enable them fast-track the project, regretting any inconveniences it would cause the public during the period, and assured early completion of the project.
