Ex-International Urges LMC To Reposition League
Ex-international, Austin
Eguavoen, has told the League Management Company (LMC) not to relent in its bid toward ensuring that the country’s professional football league was repositioned.
Eguavoen, who was also a former Super Eagles Captain made the call in an interview with the newsmen in Lagos.
He urged the LMC not to soft-pedal, calling on its boss Nduka Irabor, to maintain the status quo and strive to build on it.
“A big congratulations to the LMC because they had their own challenges too but they were able to kick-off the league.
“Even though it started late, this affected our clubs representing the country at various continental competitions.
“We need to get our domestic football system right if we are able to put the necessary mechanisms in place we will be able to get the best out of the league.’’
Eguavoen, a former ACB of Lagos player, urged stakeholders to forge a united front toward ensuring that home-based players got the necessary support.
“There is need for a united front, if not for anything but for these young boys trying to carve a niche for themselves.’’
Eguavoen, who captained the victorious 1994 Nations Cup squad, commended referees at the ongoing 2013/2014 Glo Premier League.
“One thing that the league has shown tremendous improvement is match officiating, clubs are winning away matches and there are draws, it is commendable,’’ he said.
