Delta State Government
has come up with a new scheme of work for primary and secondary schools in the state.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the state Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Patrick Muoboghare, said the new scheme, when implemented would encourage teachers to have a common template of operation for teaching on weekly basis.
Muoboghare said that the scheme would also help to expose pupils and students to the same topics, content and activities on weekly basis.
He explained that relocation of pupils and students from one school or one town to the other would in no way affect their learning experience in any subject as well as in the continuation of his education.
“This new scheme will afford the pupils and students the opportunity to be assessed with the pupils and students of his or her new school.
“The scheme, when implemented will help to motivate teachers to achieve the anticipated learning outcome for the session.
“It will make the pupils and the students to study hard because failure to cover their respective scheme of work for the session may affect their end of course assessment.
“It will also make assessment very easy because teachers can see clearly whether the instructional objectives are achievable or not,” he said.
Muoboghare congratulated the teachers who were selected from various schools across the state and urged them to be committed in drawing up the new scheme of work.
He noted that they were selected to participate in the assignment because they were capable and worthy to do the job.
The state Director of Examination and Standard Department, Mrs Henrietta Alona, noted that the scheme of work was a vital tool for effective teaching and learning.
“This scheme is very important to the improvement of the standard of education in the state.
“The exercise is organised to breakdown the Nigeria National Curriculum in various subjects into uniform and workable schemes in a way that students, pupils and teachers will have a common ground,’’ she said.
