NUJ Tasks Ministry On East-West Road Completion
The South-South zone
of the Nigeria Union Journalists (NUJ), has called on the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs to ensure the timely completion of the multi-billion East-West road.
The National Vice-President, Zone “F” of NUJ, Mr Seiyfa Uzaka, made the call in an interview with newsmen in Yenagoa.
“This call has become imperative because the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs had pledged to the people of the region that the road would be completed by December 2014.
He said that considering the slow pace of work on the project, there were fears that the road might not be completed on schedule.
“That is why we are urging the minister, Elder Godsday Orubebe, to re-double his efforts and complete the project as he promised.
“Our concerns extend to other projects being handled by the ministry in the Niger Delta which are at different stages of completion,” Uzaka said.
The national vice-president noted that the developmental challenges facing the region were enormous following several decades of neglect.
According to him, the NUJ in the South-South zone would in 2014 prevail on the ministry and the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to give account of their stewardship.
He noted that residents of the Niger Delta had a right to enjoy the dividends of democracy by way of having social amenities.
