‘Constant Power Supply Beyond State Govts’ Capacity’
Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State has said that provision of constant power supply was beyond the state government.
Oshiomhole said this on Monday at the inauguration of a 600-seater lecture auditorium at the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma.
He also said that generators were not substitute to public power generation, as power was central to national development.
The governor, however, said that he believed that the country would soon begin to enjoy uninterrupted power supply, as the Federal Government was doing everything possible to realise it.
He also pledged to continue to support the institution financially and also called for private participation in repositioning the nation’s tertiary institutions.
Earlier, the donor of the edifice and Chairman, Chris Oyakhilome Foundation International, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, said that the facility was built to help and uplift the students of the institution.
Oyakhilome said that there was the need to encourage the leaders of the institution in their desire to provide conducive atmosphere for learning.
He said that the institution, being in the village, should not limit the standard of their mind, adding that education was a priority and as such there was need to insist on quality education.
Meanwhile, Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State last Friday in Benin assented to the N160 billion 2014 budget as passed by the State House of Assembly.
Oshiomhole said that the House of Assembly, in exercising its powers, amended and reviewed the initial figure upward by N1 billion.
He said that much as he found no contradictions with the amendment, he believed that it was for the good of the people of the state and it would enrich their lives.
The governor said that the executive would do its best to implement the budget as faithfully as possible.
Oshiomhole thanked the leadership of the House for expediting action on the passage of the budget.
The governor assured the House hat government would ensure that the implementation of the budget would translate into reality.
