Community Inaugurates Committee On Summit
Ida Obolo, the apex socio-
cultural organization of the Obolo people has inaugurated a nine-member committee to work out modalities for its second annual summit billed for Ibeno, Akwa-Ibom State.
The National President of the organisation, Mr Cyrus Nkangwung disclosed this in an interview with newsmen at the end of the group’s general meeting at the weekend in Port Harcourt.
Nkangwung said that the committee which is to be chaired by Dr Ngerebara O. Gago will have its composition drawn from Rivers and Akwa-Ibom State respectively.
According to him, four members will be drawn from Andoni and one from Ido all in Rivers State, two from Ibeno, one from Oron and one from Eastern Obolo all in Akwa-Ibom State.
The National President said that the summit scheduled to take place in Oron, was later shifted to Ibeno due to political conflicts among the various political groups in the five Oron naiton’s local government area of Akwa-Ibom State.
Giving further insight into the proposed summit, he said that issues ranging from the unity of the Obolos scattered across the country will be discussed, while distinguished sons and daughters of Obolos drawn from Rivers Akwa-Ibom and Ohafia in Abia State will be honoured.
Meanwhile, Ida Obolo Socio Culutral Organisation has put in place modalities towards participation in the forthcoming national conference.
National President of the group, Mr Cyrus Nkangwung described the proposed confab as the greatest thing that will happen to Nigeria, stressing that it will provide opportunities for the diverse groups in the country to discuss ways of strengthening their relationship with one another thereby enhancing the unity of Nigeria.
He commended the president Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan for the decision and urged everyone to support it.
