Spokesman Lists Gains Of Customs Law Review
The Public Relations Officer, Lilypond Customs Area Command, Ijora, Dr Charles Agonmuo, last Monday, said the review and consolidation of the Customs and Excise Management Act will enhance its service delivery.
Agonmuo, who made the disclosure in an interview with our correspondent in Lagos said that the reviewed law, which was waiting the president’s assent, would grant autonomy to the Nigeria Customs Services (NCS).
According to him, the review seeks to reform the administration and management of Customs and Excise and to bring the Act of 1958 in line with the dynamics of international best practices.
The spokesman said that the consolidation of the laws would make the NCS operations more fruitful.
“Though the bill which has already been passed by the National Assembly is facing challenges, we are looking forward to its passage”, Agonmuo said.
He said also that the Lilypond Command had witnessed increased level of activities compared with recorded lull in activities over the years.
Agonmuo, who declined to profile details on the number of goods ceased and revenue generated so far, said the Deputy Comptroller of the Area would soon address the issue.
The Customs Excise Management bill seeks to consolidate the NCS laws into one Act from eight different enactments.
