Airline Operators Charge FG On National Carrier
The Airline Operators of
Nigeria (AON) say the Federal Government (FG) is yet to ask it to make an input into any plan to float a national carrier.
Capt. Nogie Meggison, newly elected chairman of the association, said this in an interview with newsmen shortly after his election in Ikeja.
Meggison, the Chief Executive Officer of Jed Air, said that he would, however, consult with his members before coming out with their position on the matter.
He said that the AON’s members would work as a formidable team and engage all stakeholders on issues affecting the industry in a bid to move it forward.
The chairman said the era of AON members speaking in discordant tones was over, promising that the new executive would strategise on issues affecting operators before taking a position.
“The AON remains professional and will ensure that the interest of the nation and the industry is paramount to its objectives,’’ he said.
Meggison promised that he and the Chief Operating Officer of DANA Air, Mr Yvan Drewinsky, who was elected as Vice Chairman, as well as other members of the executive, would be accessible and transparent.
He said that positions which were still vacant would be filled soon.
Our correspondent reports that the Meggison will lead the body for two years.
The former executive, headed by Dr Steve Mahonwu, led the body for 14 years and was dissolved on June 28.
Following the dissolution, a body of trustees was installed to pilot the affairs of the body until Thursday’s election.
