The police last
Thursday, arraigned two traders at a Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, for stealing two Samsung phones from their neighbour’s shop.
Godfrey Elijah, 22, and Bashiru Mamuda, 18, were arraigned on charges of joint act and theft
The police prosecutor, Cpl David Udeh, said that on Sepember 26, one Abuchi Nwadobi, of Canopy market, Wuse Zone 3, Abuja, reported the accused at the Wuse Zone 3, police station.
He told the court that Nwadobi had reported that while he was sleeping in his shop, Elijah, who was also a trader in the market, entered the shop and stole a Samsung phone.
Udeh said that when Elijah was arrested, he was caught alongside Mamuda (second accused), who the complainant also alleged, had in July also stole from the shop.
He said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 79 and 287 0f the penal code.
They pleaded not guilty, and Senior Magistrate Celestine Odoh admitted them to bail in the sum of N30,000 each and one reliable surety each, who must be residing within the jurisdiction of the court.
He ordered that both sureties must swear to an affidavit of means and submit their passport photographs to the court’s registry.
