Ex-Militant’s Arrest Eases Tension In Oil Community
Oil activities in Kokori
Community in Ethiope East local Government Council of Delta State will now enjoy better prospects following the recent arrest of a suspected ex-militant simply known as Kelvin.
The Tide learnt that Kelvin was arrested in a hotel in Edo State last Thursday by some detachments of state security service men and the Joint Military Task Force (JTF) in the state.
We further gathered that his arrest was not unconnected with the 60 days ultimatium he gave to the federal government to provide his people with all it takes to answer a modern city or have all its oil facilities in the area destroyed.
Ethiope is believed to be one of the richest oil communities in the country, but has little or nothing to show for it.
This publication, also gathered that before the 60-day ultimatum by Kelvin, both chiefs and opinion leaders in his community had resolved to work with him to pursue a reversal of their alleged neglect by the federal government given the oil operations going on in their land.
According to our source, the ex-militant mean well for his people, but regretted that he followed it through what he called a leftist approach.
Commenting on the issue in Port Harcourt, Friday, an oil company worker who pleaded anonymity, said that the federal government has failed in the area of development of oil producing communities.
He said that most oil communities in the country could fare better, if two per cent of what is produced in their land is sent back to them.
He regretted that the federal government has enriched itself without consideration to the oil communities.
He, however, called on oil communities to form a formidable front not manned by touts, but level headed-men who could make case for them even up to international level.
