Union Boss Harps On Credible Leadership
The Rivers State chairman
of Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Jumbo Jonah, has cautioned against the tendency of division among the operational branches of the union in Rivers State.
Jonah gave the charge in Port Harcourt, recently during the inauguration of the new executives of the Bodo and Kono branches of the union.
The state chairman urged the new leadership of the units to concentrate on how to strengthen industrial peace and discipline, and not to operate in splinters and drag the unions name in the mud.
He said the new excos should strive to uphold the objectives of the union by giving proper attention to the welfare of members through consultative leadership.
Also speaking, the state secretary of the union, Comrade Eze Roberts, called on the new leadership of the units to desist from petition writing and concentrate on measures of achieving progress, adding that members who forment trouble will be handed over to law enforcement agents.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected chairman of the Bodo unit, Comrade Barida Badom, commended the state exco for the peaceful conduct of the election. He solicited for the support of members to enable him succeed, adding that the welfare of members will be given priority attention.
In his post election remark, the chairman of the Kono unit of the union, Comrade Authony Yowika, assured that he will run a transparent government devoid of rancour and acrimony. Yowika also promised to reconciles all interests at the unit to achieve unity of purpose. Other elected members for the Kono unit, include Comrade Melody Nubani, vice chairman, Comrade Austine Legbara sec. Comrade Fito Yokina treasurer, Comrade ThankGod Yiwika organizing sec.
